Palestine schools will go ahead with formal graduation ceremonies despite an unusual end to the school year.

The board set new tentative graduation dates that were previously altered when schools and large public gathering were closed or prohibited by Illinois Governor JB Pritzker.

Graduation for Palestine High School remains scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27. Ceremonies for Palestine Grade School were moved from their original tentative date to 9:30 a.m. also on June 27. Details of the format and procedures for the ceremonies will be provided at a later date.

In personnel matters, the board approved a one-year extension of the district’s contract with the Palestine Education Association.

The board approved summer custodial employment for Pam McCord, Erika blank and Travis Blank.

In other business, the board established school board meeting dates and times for 2020-21 and approved the opening of closed session minutes from the April 20 meeting.

Also, the first reading of school district policy updates was approved.

The board also approved the Student Teaching and Clinical Experiences Affiliation Agreement with Eastern Illinois University.

The next regular stated meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 15, 2020.
