Larry Miller, 83, Palestine, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020. He was born on April 29, 1937, the son of Luther and Ruth (Musgrave) Miller, both of whom preceded him in death. On May 23, 1987, he married, Barbara Hardesty, and she survives. He is also survived by his daughters, Darci and Joe Skrzyniarz, Three Rivers, Mich., Denise and Ben Bolin Kansas City, Mo.; by his step-children, Mary Beth Smeltzer, Palestine, and David and Carol Matteson, Palestine; by his grandchildren, and by his great-grandchildren. Larry grew up in Palestine and was a 1955 graduate of Palestine High School. He would further his education at the University of Illinois, Eastern Illinois University, Western Michigan University, and Michigan State University. He taught for Three Rivers School System, where he eventually became an administrator. He retired in 1989 and moved back to Palestine, where he opened Coon Hollow Studios. He was a member of several art organizations over the years, He was active in a number of local organizations as well serving as a Palestine Village board member and the Palestine Chamber of Commerce board.
A time of visitation will be held from 1 - 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Please note that due to COVID-19 mandates passed by the state of Illinois, social distancing measures will be in force, and it will be required that all attendees wear face coverings.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with Pastors Tim Watson and Tom Akers officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to either “Palestine CUSD 3” or to the “Oak Grove Cemetery Association,” with envelopes available at the funeral home.
