Ivan G. Parker


Ivan Gene Parker, 84, Oblong, passed away on Saturday Jan. 9, 2021 at Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care-Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was born in Martine Township in Crawford County, Ill. on Nov. 18, 1936 to Emery Burl and Clara (McIntosh) Parker. On March 26, 1955 he married Shirley L. Woodward who preceded him in death on Oct. 17, 2004. Ivan served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He had worked for the Illinois Secretary of State’s office as a driver’s license instructor. He was one of the founding members of the Oblong Henpeck CB Club. He enjoyed arts and crafts, camping, fishing, traveling, and dancing in his later years along with putting together picture puzzles, playing dominos and board games. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Ronda and Allen Gaddis, Robinson; grandchildren Wilber Willam Witt III, Seattle, Wash., Timothy Allen Witt, Killen, Texas, Anthony “A.J.” and Emily Vannetta, Nixon, Mo., Nicole Gaddis, Oblong, and Holly Gaddis, Robinson; three great-grandchildren Keegan Gaddis and Kali Hardig, Oblong, Peyton Walker, Robinson, and Aubree Lynn Ann Fitt, Oblong. He is also survived by a sister Wanda Lanter Landsbery, Oblong along with several nieces and nephews and a special friend Mary Lou Tuttle. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, three sons Robert Gene, Donald Keith and Douglas Allen Parker; a daughter Brenda Louise Parker, a granddaughter Joy Gaddis, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Larry and Shirley Woodard and Nolan and Donna Jones. A Celebration of Ivan’s life will be held at Noon on Friday Jan. 15, 2021 at Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong. Burial will be in Oblong Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
