Duane Centers


Duane Harold Centers, 85, Oblong, died on Tuesday Nov. 17, 2020 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. He was born in rural Coles County, Charleston, area on Nov. 7, 1935 to Lewis and Omega (Noble) Centers. On Nov. 17, 1957 he married Leona Fern Goodwin, who preceded him in death on July 6, 1998. On Dec. 16, 2000 he married Ruth Ann (Ryne) Boyd, who survives. Duane served in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1957 and again in 1961 to 1962. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Oblong. He had worked in the production department at National Homes in Effingham, retiring in December 1994. He is survived by his wife Ruth Ann Centers, a daughter and son-in-law Mareena F. and Don Hall, Saltillo, Tenn.; step-daughter Ladora Boyd, Oblong; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Alice Rhyne, Littleton, Colo. and Clara and Elbert Leroy Smith, Robinson, and son-in-law Frank Hall, Metropolis, Ill., along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding him in death was his first wife, infant son, Clinton Duane Centers, daughters Barbara Marie Hall and Kristi Hall; infant grandson Tracy Duane Hall; three brothers and sisters-in-law Clarence Kash and Lois Centers, Leonard Centers, William Anthony “Bill” Centers; two sisters and brothers-in-law Daisy Esther and Stanley Tucker, Lucy Marie and Walter James Melvin and brother-in-law John Francis Rhyne. A private family graveside service will be held at Drummond Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday Nov. 21, 2020 from 9 - 11 a.m. at Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong. The family requests that in lieu of flowers an expression of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to American Kidney Foundation with envelopes available at the funeral home or may be mailed to Pulliam Funeral Home P.O.
