David Patrick Brooks, 60, Newton, passed away at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020 at his home. Private family services will be held. In loving memory of David, memorials may be made to the Jasper County Cancer Fund and can be sent to the Brooks Family 9392 North 900th Street, Newton, Illinois 62448. David was born on May 7, 1960, in Olney, the son of Royal Levi and Catherine Margaret “Kay” (Hammond) Brooks. He married Patricia Beals on Oct. 4, 1980, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton. David graduated from Newton Community High School in 1978. In October 1979, he started his career at Norris Electric Cooperative in Newton, and retired after 38 years of service.
He was a volunteer for the Boys Scouts troop #156 and helped with the BSA pinewood derby for several years and even built and donated a new electronic derby track. David is survived by: his wife Patty Brooks of Newton; his children, Ethan (Christine) Brooks of Teutopolis, Ill.; Branda (Joseph) Hardig of Oblong; Richard (Kristin) Brooks of Pompano Beach, Fla.; Cinnamon Glaze of Hueytown, Ala.; Patrick Brooks of Newton;his brother John (Debbie) Brooks of Newton; his sister Linda Klebe of Muscatine, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. David was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Daisy Brooks, brother Ron Brooks and mother and father-in-law Mary Jane and Harry V. Beals.
