Coach Cork honored
Robinson High School principal Troy Hickey presents track coach Tony Cork with the new traveling trophy that renames the Robinson Invitational the Coach Cork Invitational. Cork was honored in a ceremony during the meet, as he is retiring as RHS track coach at the end of the season.

Maroons dominant in winning own Invite
It was yet another dominating performance by Robinson High School's boys' track team Friday, but the latest effort had a little bit more meaning for the Maroons and head coach Tony Cork.

Robinson rolled to a win in the 37th Robinson Invitational, but that wasn't the only highlight of the night. The victory by the Maroons capped a special night that was centered around Cork, who was honored during a ceremony in the middle of the meet.

"They fooled me pretty well," Cork said. "I knew they were planning on doing something, but had no clue what all they were going to do. I was definitely surprised."

Statesmen drop three to Kaskaskia
Three games in two days netted Lincoln Trail College's baseball team three losses over the weekend.

The Statesmen got off to a bad start with a 13-1 loss at Kaskaskia Friday, then saw a pair of comeback bids fall short in 7-6 and 8-5 losses on Saturday in Robinson, resulting in a sweep of their Great Rivers Athletic Conference series.

Lady Statesmen split pair of doubleheaders
Wins have been hard to come by for Lincoln Trail College's softball team, but the Lady Statesmen managed to pick up a couple recently.

Lincoln Trail split a pair of Great Rivers Athletic Conference doubleheaders with Southeastern Illinois and Southwestern Illinois, stopping a six-game losing streak in the process.

Lady Tigers blitzed by Cumberland, 11-0, in LOVC Southeast contest
A rough day on the diamond resulted in a lopsided loss for Hutsonville-Palestine's softball team Friday.

The Lady Tigers gave up 10 runs in the first three innings on their way to an 11-0 loss to Cumberland in Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Division play.

Panthers drop pitcher's duel in 2-1, non-conference loss to Newton
More hits did not mean more runs for Oblong High School's baseball team Friday.

The Panthers outhit visiting Newton 5-3, but the Eagles had the edge where it counted, sending the Panthers to a 2-1 loss in their non-conference contest.

A lack of offense sent Robinson High School's baseball team to a lopsided loss Friday evening.

The Maroons struggled to get anything going at the plate and suffered a 10-0 defeat at Teutopolis in non-conference action.

Oblong High School's softball and baseball teams both bounced back from non-conference losses in a big way April 20, as they combined for 33 runs in blowout victories over Martinsville in Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Division play.

Lady Maroons win 5-team meet, PH 4th
Another strong performance all around led Robinson High School's girls' track team to a win in a five-team meet at Lawrenceville April 19.

The Lady Maroons won 10 events and totaled 141.5 points to easily win the meet. Olney was second with 114 points, followed by Mt. Carmel (66.5), Palestine-Hutsonville (23) and Lawrenceville (19).

Close matches were the theme for most of Robinson High School's boys' tennis match against Olney April 19.

Unfortunately for the Maroons, they came out on the short end of more than they didn't, which resulted in a 6-3 loss.

Another early lead slipped away in the late innings April 19, sending Robinson High School's baseball team to its second close loss in as many days.

The Maroons led early against visiting Mt. Carmel, but the Golden Aces scored a pair of runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to send RHS to a 4-2 defeat in non-conference action.
