Lady Panthers thump Lady Pioneers, 45-15
The rematch went much like the initial meeting between county rivals.

Oblong and Palestine-Hutsonville's girls' basketball teams met for the second time this season and the outcome Monday night (Jan. 14) was very similar to their first meeting.

The Lady Panthers jumped out to a big lead early and cruised to a 45-15 win over the Lady Pioneers in their opening round game of the Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Division Tournament at Martinsville.

It was the fifth straight win for the third-seeded Lady Panthers, while the sixth-seeded Lady Pioneers are still looking for their first victory of the season.

Lady Maroons lose to Paris, 63-19
Committing nearly as many turnovers as shots you attempt is not a good recipe for success.

Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened to Robinson High School's girls' basketball team Monday night (Jan. 14).

After a strong performance in a win over Casey-Westfield to start the Little Illini Conference Thursday, the Lady Maroons came out as cold as the weather outside and the end result was a 63-19 loss to top-seeded Paris in their quarterfinal contest that was played at Robinson High School following the quarterfinal round being postponed due to snow Saturday.

"They are number one in the conference for a reason," RHS head coach Sherry Bopp said. "They are very good at what they do."

One Crawford County team picked up their first conference win Thursday, while another is still searching for their first win of the season.

The Lady Panthers rolled to a 48-10 win over Cumberland, while the Lady Pioneers dropped a 56-25 decision to Villa Grove-Heritage.

Lady Maroons beat Casey-Westfield, 57-42
An offensive outburst helped Robinson High School's girls' basketball team open Little Illini Conference Tournament play with a win.

The Lady Maroons scored a season-high in points and cruised to a 57-42 win over Casey-Westfield in an opening-round game of the LIC Tournament at Newton Thursday night (Jan. 10).

The 57 points by Robinson were by far a season-high, as their previous top point total was 46 in wins over Martinsville (Nov. 24) and Dieterich (Dec. 17).

Lady Statesmen drill Kaskaskia, 76-44
An extra couple days added to their layoff had no ill effects on Lincoln Trail College's women's basketball team.

RHS wrestlers win two at Shelbyville
Despite a line-up that was less than full strength, Robinson High School's wrestling team rolled to a pair of wins Tuesday (Jan. 8) in matches at Shelbyville.

Robinson was a bit short-handed, but still managed to pick up wins over Hillsboro (48-29) and Shelbyville (42-21) in a their two dual matches.

"Hillsboro is a team that seems to be rebuilding this year, while Shelbyville's line-up is still pretty thin right now, so they have trouble filling all the weight classes," RHS head coach Joe Cunningham said. "The surprise for us was that we also had some last-minute holes in our line-up we are not accustomed to having. Even with all the forfeits, most of the kids we took got to wrestle and got some pretty decent mat time."
