Oblong boys' track second, girls third at Cumberland meet Tuesday

There were good things and bad from Oblong High School's track teams at Tuesday's meet at Cumberland.

The boys' team had a strong performance, but it was still not quite enough to win the three-team meet, while the girls' squad scored in just seven events and won only one on their way to a third-place finish.

In the boys' meet, Oblong won seven events on their way to scoring 60.5 points, but still finished second to host Cumberland, who had 74.5, while Marshall was third with 39.

Chase Mendenhall was a double-winner for OHS, finishing first in the triple jump with a distance of 36-2 and the long jump at 16-7. Also winning for OHS were Kurtis Fleek in the 100 with a time of 12.31, Zack Coker in the 200 at 24.88, Alec Jacobs in the high jump at 5-2, the 400 relay team in 49.50 and 800 relay team in 1:39.31.

Tucker Inboden finished second in the triple jump (32-6) for the Panthers, while Justin Holmes was second in the shot put (36-8.5), as was the 1600 relay team (4:25.58).

Finishing third for OHS were Inboden in the 100 (12.50), Ian Sablone in the 110 high hurdles (22.71), the 3200 relay team (12:04.12), Slater Martin in the 400 (1:03.65), Jacobs in the long jump (15-8) and Dalton Noblitt in the 300 hurdles (55.12).

Fourth-place finishers were Lemmon in the 300 hurdles (1:00.68), high jump (5-0) and triple jump (29-7), Holmes in the discus (97-6), Daylan Inboden in the shot put (33-9.5) and Jacobs in the 400 (1:04.18), while Tyler Jenkins finished fifth in the 1600 (5:52.02) and 3200 (12:43.11).

Other finishers for the Panthers included Noblitt in the 800 (5th 2:33.59), Sablone in the 800 (7th 3:04.27), Coker in the discus (9th 90-8), Levi Steinman in the shot put (9th 30-0) and discus (10th 76-2), Tristin Kniecly in the shot put (7th 32-6.75) and discus (11th 68-0) and Chandler Manhart in the 400 (8th 1:11.18).

In the girls' meet, Oblong scored just 15 points, while Marshall edged Cumberland to win the meet, 78-75.

The lone win for OHS came in the 110 hurdles, as Hannah Lamb finished first with a time of 19.06. Sarah Martin scored a pair of third-place finishes in the 100 (14.34) and 200 (30.22), while Natalia Zagajewska third in the long jump at 10-5.51, as was the 400 relay team in 1:01.06.

Finishing fourth for the Lady Panthers were Lauren Bayless in the 400 (1:18.94) and long jump (10-5.5), Cierra Morris in the 300 hurdles (1:00.40) and Cecilia Slane in the discus (64-6), while Morris was fifth in the high jump (4-2) and Kayla Musgrave was fifth in the long jump (10-0.5).

Also for OHS, Maria Diaz was sixth in the 800 (3:04.87), Lamb was sixth in the 200 (31.79), Slane was seventh in the shot put (24-1.75), Musgrave was eighth in the 1600 (7:38.24), Morris was eighth in the 800 (3:18.30) and Zagajewska was ninth in the shot put (22-3.75).
