Robinson High School's baseball team won the IHSA Class 2A Newton Regional by defeating Newton 9-4 in the championship game Saturday (May 18).

RHS has 11 make All-Little Illini teams
Nearly a dozen Robinson High School athletes were recognized for their achievements on the diamond this past season by being among players tabbed to the All-Little Illini Conference baseball and softball teams.

Robinson had seven players make the All-LIC baseball teams, including three on the First Team.

Seven from county on All-LOVC SE teams
Just over a half dozen Crawford County athletes were recognized for their achievements on the diamond this past season by being named to one of the All-Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Division teams.

In what turns out to be the final set of All-LOVC teams to be announced due to the conference dissolving, a total of seven players between Oblong and Hutsonville-Palestine received honors in either baseball or softball.

Robinson baseball starts summer slate with pair of wins at Altamont
After a couple of weeks off, Robinson High School's baseball team picked up where they left off.

The Maroons opened their summer schedule with a pair of wins at Altamont Monday (June 3), winning game one 3-1 and game two 2-0.

Bogard places in two events at state meet
For the fourth time in the past five seasons, Robinson High School's boys' track team has had at least one athlete earn a medal at the state track meet.

This year, one athlete won a pair of medals, as RHS junior Negus Bogard placed in two events at the IHSA Class 1A Boys Track State Finals at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston (May 25).

Maroons fall short to Breese Mater Dei, 6-4
Baseball can be a game of inches and a few of those inches proved costly for Robinson High School's baseball team Wednesday night (May 22).

The Maroons went toe-to-toe with a talented and highly-regarded Breese Mater Dei team, but came up just short in a 6-4 loss in their semifinal game at the IHSA Class 2A Teutopolis Sectional

"We played a good baseball game against a very good opponent," RHS head coach Reggie Truitt said. "We have to give Mater Dei credit. They're a good team with a tough line-up."

Bogard lone county athlete to advance
And then there was one.

Crawford County had more than a dozen athletes competing at the IHSA Class 1A Boys Track State Finals in Charleston Thursday (May 23), but only one remains standing following the preliminary round.

Robinson High School junior Negus Bogard was the lone local competitor to advance to Saturday's finals, as he won his heat of the 1600 with a time of 4:25.71, which was .01 seconds ahead of Bismarck-Henning's Gabe Martinez, who came in second. Bogard was already assured of competing Saturday, as he will compete in the 3200, which is there is no preliminary round for, but added a second event with the win.

Slaughter to play baseball at Hannibal-LaGrange
College athletes continue to be churned out by Robinson High School, with the latest coming from the RHS baseball program, which just happens to be having one of its best seasons in program history.

RHS senior Cade Slaughter signed a letter-of-intent to continue his baseball career at Hannibal-LaGrange University, a NAIA school in Hannibal, Mo.

"I have been looking forward to this since I was a little kid," Slaughter said. "I have been working hard year after year toward this and it's been a grind. I just want to thank my coaches, my dad and all my friends and family for supporting my while I worked toward this goal."

Lady Panthers lose to CCORL, 9-8
Momentum can be both positive and negative and Oblong High School's softball team experienced both in the same game Wednesday (May 22).

The Lady Panthers were in control for most of their IHSA Class 1A Sectional semifinal against Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran, but nine runs over a two-inning span swung the momentum to the other side and a late comeback attempt was not enough, as Oblong dropped a 9-8 decision.

Maroons down Newton, 9-4, to take title
In what was essentially a mini-Little Illini Conference Tournament last week, the co-Little Illini Conference regular season champions held serve and earned a bigger piece of hardware in the process.

Robinson High School's baseball team won a pair of games over fellow LIC schools this week at the IHSA Class 2A Newton Regional that featured five LIC schools in the field, culminating with Saturday (May 18)'s 9-4 win over host Newton in the championship game.

Lady Panthers beat Woodlawn, 6-5
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Despite having a new coach this season along with several new players, then facing new opponents in a new location to start the postseason, Oblong High School's softball team carried on like nothing changed, as the Lady Panthers picked up their third straight regional championship Saturday (May 18).

Buchanan second, team finishes 4th
For the second straight year, Robinson High School will be represented in the boys' tennis state tournament.

Junior Kaden Buchanan qualified for the state finals for the second straight year, as he finished second in the singles tournament at the IHSA Class 1A Effingham Sectional over the weekend (May 17-18).
