Maroons win pair of weekend games
Wins continue to pile up for Robinson High School's baseball team so far this season.

The Maroons put together a pair of strong showings at Stewardson-Strasburg Saturday (April 6) and came away with two wins. Robinson opened with a 15-1 whipping of Cerro Gordo-Bement, then finished off the perfect day with a 4-0 victory over Windsor-Stewardson-Strasburg.

Robinson boys' tennis team ties for 3rd at Mattoon Invitational
Every entry won at least two matches, leading Robinson High School's boys' tennis team to a third-place tie in the 13-team Mattoon Invitational Saturday (April 6).

Robinson finished fifth or higher in each of the five brackets, giving them a total of 29.5 points to tie with Champaign St. Thomas More. Mattoon won the tournament with 43 points, followed by Mt. Zion with 34. Urbana (26.5), Paris (20), Casey-Westfield (17.5), Charleston (13.5), Newton (11), Salem (9.5), Lincoln (2), Effingham St. Anthony (2) and Shelbyville (1) completed the field.

"The invite was a good confidence builder," RHS head coach Tom Buchanan said. "Our players realized they can compete and beat teams from Champaign, which is traditionally a strong tennis community."

RHS boys' 5th at Olney Invitational
Solid performances netted Robinson High School's boys' track team a middle-of-the-pack finish at the annual Olney Invitational Friday (April 5).

The Maroons held their own against tough competition, winning three events and totaling 56.5 points to finish fifth in the nine-team field. Olney won the meet with 138 points, with Mattoon close behind at 133. Salem (67), Fairfield (60.5), Paris (49.5), Charleston (47), Newton (45.5) and Mt. Carmel (23) rounded out the field.

Tigers rally late, beat Tri-County in LOVC SE play, 7-6, in 8 innings
It took a late rally, an extra inning and a fortunate bounce, but Hutsonville-Palestine's baseball team was able to find its way into the win column Friday.

The Tigers rallied from an early deficit only to give up their regained lead late before winning in eight innings over Tri-County, 7-6, in a Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Division contest.

A busy weekend netted Lincoln Trail College's baseball team a series win in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play.

The Statesmen took two out of three games from Kaskaskia over the weekend to keep themselves above the .500 mark on the season.

Lady Tigers go 1-2 on the weekend
A rough day on the diamond resulted in a pair of lopsided losses for Hutsonville-Palestine's softball team at the Lawrenceville Invitational Saturday (April 6).

The Lady Tigers managed just one run and suffered two losses by double digits, as they fell to Olney 15-0 and Lawrenceville 11-1.

Lady Maroons fall to Marshall, 12-2
A close game got away from Robinson High School's softball team and resulted in a lopsided loss in their Little Illini Conference opener (April 4).

The Lady Maroons held an early lead and were within striking distance until an eight-run fifth inning put them in too deep a hole, ending with a 12-2 loss to Marshall in the LIC opener for both teams.

Conditions weren't ideal, but that didn't keep Robinson High School's baseball team from rolling to another victory.

The Maroons opened up Little Illini Conference play with an 11-1 win over Marshall on a cool, rainy Thursday afternoon (April 4).

Lady Statesmen lose pair of high-scoring games to Frontier
Runs came in bunches Tuesday night, but unfortunately for Lincoln Trail College's softball team, they were not able to bunch together as many as their opposition.

The Lady Statesmen held leads in both games, but gave up late rallies to drop both ends of a doubleheader against Frontier Community College, 15-6 and 12-9 in nine innings.

The Maroons continued their solid play to start the season with a 5-4 win at Mattoon in non-conference play.

RHS girls' track wins at Lawrenceville
Yet another strong performance netted Robinson High School's girls' track team a win in a three-team meet at Lawrenceville Wednesday (April 3).

The Lady Maroons continued their busy stretch to start the season by winning seven events and totaling 78 points in the victory. Olney was second with 53.5 and Lawrenceville third with 49.5.

"It was a beautiful night weather wise and both Olney and Lawrenceville have a lot of talent," RHS head coach Shannon Goebel said. "It was nice to see some new teams, especially with both of them being in our conference."
