Route 1 Showdown Champs
Robinson High School's softball team won the Route 1 Showdown at Paris Saturday. The Lady Maroons defeated Georgetown-Ridge Farm,16-5, in their opener and downed Marshall, 5-2, in the tile game to claim the championship.


RHS boys' tennis beats Fairfield, 9-0
Another dominant performance led Robinson High School's boys' tennis team to another lopsided victory Thursday (April 27).

The Maroons swept in singles and doubles matches, including six wins in straight sets, on their way to a 9-0 victory over visiting Fairfield.

"As a whole we played well, but not great," RHS head coach Tom Buchanan said. "We did see some improvement in our aggressiveness in doubles. We have been working at closing out points at the net and tonight we did a better job."

Statesmen use long ball to roll past Shawnee, 13-3, in GRAC action
The long ball was an effective weapon for Lincoln Trail College's baseball team Thursday (April 27), as they picked up their third straight double-digit victory.

The Statesmen hit four home runs and scored 11 times in their first two at-bats on the way to a 13-3 victory over Shawnee Community College in a Great Rivers Athletic Conference contest.

A rough start proved too much for Robinson High School's baseball team to overcome Thursday (April 27).

The Maroons could not climb out of an early hole and ended up on the short end of a 9-4 loss to Newton in Little Illini Conference play.

An early lead didn't last long for Hutsonville-Palestine's softball team Tuesday (April 25), as they dropped a make-up Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Division game at Villa Grove-Heritage, 11-4.

Statesmen roll to sweep over Lake Land
Offense was aplenty for Lincoln Trail College's baseball team Tuesday (April 25) and the end result was a doubleheader sweep over visiting Lake Land College in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play.

The Statesmen combined for 24 runs on 22 hits on their way to 13-2 and 11-0 wins.

Robinson boys' tennis team sweeps its way to 7-0 victory at Newton
Dominant play across the board led Robinson High School's boys' tennis team to a lopsided victory Tuesday (April 25).

The Maroons lost just one set in the entire match and rolled to a 7-0 victory at Newton.

"Playing a team for the second time can add a bit of mental stress," RHS head coach Tom Buchanan said. "We handled Newton really well two weeks earlier and we wanted to make sure we took care of business today. We had a few points of stress where we let the opponent back into the match, but we corrected it and completed the sweep."

Panthers, Lady Panthers beat Red Hill
Another set of strong pitching performances led Oblong High School's baseball and softball teams to victories in non-conference play at Red Hill Tuesday (April 25).

The Panthers scored in every inning but one on their way to a 12-0 win in the baseball game, while the Lady Panthers jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 9-2 win in the softball game.

Robinson girls' track first, Palestine-Hutsonville fourth at Newton Monday
Competition was close, but Robinson High School's girls' track team was able to come out on top in a four-team meet at Newton Monday (April 24).

The Lady Maroons won five events and had strong finishes in several more on their way to racking up 124 points and edging Teutopolis, who finished second with 123. Newton was third with 113 and Palestine-Hutsonville fourth with 24.

Lady Statesmen drop three to Lake Land
One team scored virtually at will, while the other did not score at all, which turned out to be bad news for Lincoln Trail College's softball team Tuesday (April 25).

The Lady Statesmen went scoreless in two and a half games and the end result was three lopsided losses at the hands of Lake Land College.
