Tigers beat Paris JV, 58-50, for first win at Tri-County Tournament

They didn't make it easy on themselves, but Hutsonville-Palestine's boys' basketball team found its way into the win column Wednesday night (Nov. 27).

The Tigers were able to pull away late to pick up a 58-50 win over Paris JV at the Tri-County Turkey Tournament at Shiloh High School.

Hutsonville-Palestine grabbed a 14-11 lead after one quarter, but was outscored 10-7 in the second quarter and the game was tied at 21-21 at halftime. Hutsonville-Palestine rebounded by outscoring Paris JV 17-15 in the third quarter to take a 38-36 lead, then won the fourth quarter 20-14 to secure the victory.

Evan Newlin led Hutsonville-Palestine with 19 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists, while Kurtis Plew posted 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots. Gary Higginbotham contributed nine points, three rebounds, three steals and one assist, Dylan Salee collected eight points, five rebounds, one steal and one blocked shot, Adam Pickering totaled six points, four assists, three steals and one rebound, Tucker Pruitt netted two points, five rebounds and one steal and Gavin Besing added two points and two assists.

Cody Crampton led Paris JV with 16 points, while Braylon Nugent was also in double figures with 13.

Also on Wednesday, Fithian-Oakwood picked up a pair of wins, beating Martinsville 66-35 and Champaign Judah Christian 54-43.
