OPH loses at Georgetown, 58-14

It was the same story, different week for Oblong-Palestine-Hutsonville's football team Friday night (Oct. 18).

As they have often this season, OPH fell behind early and could never find a way to catch up in a 58-14 loss at Georgetown-Ridge Farm.

Two touchdowns in the first 2:28 of the game put OPH behind 14-0 and they never recovered. OPH trailed 20-0 at the end of the first quarter, then Georgetown-Ridge Farm scored twice more in the first three minutes of the second quarter to extend its lead to 34-6.

On a plus note, OPH was able to put some points on the board in the first half, as Jonathan McPherson returned a kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown to make the score 34-6 with 8:50 remaining in the first half.

However, Georgetown-Ridge Farm was not done scoring, as they tacked on three more touchdowns and three two-point conversions before halftime to extend their advantage to 58-6 at intermission.

The clock ran continuously for the entire second half due to the IHSA's 40-point mercy rule, but OPH was able to tack on another score, as Trey Williams had a four-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter and ran in the two-point conversion to reach the final margin.

For the game, OPH was outgained 454-101, with 363 of Georgetown-Ridge Farm's yards coming on the ground.

All of OPH's yards were rushing, as quarterbacks Levi Beard and Williams combined to go 0-7 passing. Gavin Postlewaite led OPH with 75 yards rushing on 16 attempts, while Reeve Dennis ran for 22 yards in 12 carries and Williams added a rushing touchdown.

Gavan Shelton led Georgetown-Ridge Farm with 226 yards rushing and three touchdowns in just seven carries. Chaze Rowell ran for 74 yards and two touchdowns and Logan Dawson completed all three of his passes for 91 yards, including 76 yards and two touchdowns going to Trayvion Brown.
