The first match of the season was near-perfection for Robinson High School's girls' tennis team.
The Lady Maroons won all but one match and cruised to an 8-1 win over Casey-Westfield in their first action of the season Thursday (Aug. 29) at the Washington Park courts.
Robinson won five of six singles matches, with Sarah Staller, Mia Hargis, Ella Dorfmueller, Alysha Clements and Stevee Walker each picking up a win in straight sets, while the lone loss came from Lucy List at No. 3 in three sets.
Sarah played a solid match against very good opponent," RHS head coach Steve Jenkins said. "Sarah did a great job of being patient in setting up points and her court movement has getting to shots was outstanding. Ella and Alysha won both of their singles 6-0, 6-0. Both of the girls were being so consistent with their shots, making very few unforced errors."
The Lady Maroons also swept the doubles competition, with the teams of Clements and List, Walker and Dorfmueller and Hargis and Destanee Liston scoring victories.
"Ella and Stevee teamed up at No. 2 doubles for us and also won 6-0, 6-0," Jenkins said. "Stevee's play at the net combined with Ella excellent shot location on deep shots worked well together."
The two teams also played a junior varsity match, with Robinson falling 5-4 with one tie. Picking up wins for RHS were doubles teams of Madison Martin and Alexis Davis, Madison Utterback and Olivia Yarber, Kayla Guyer and Latesha Aldrich and Makayla Collins and Aldrich.
