For the second straight year, Robinson High School will be represented in the boys' tennis state tournament.
Junior Kaden Buchanan qualified for the state finals for the second straight year, as he finished second in the singles tournament at the IHSA Class 1A Effingham Sectional over the weekend (May 17-18).
Buchanan, who was seeded second among the 19 players in the field and after receiving an opening round bye, he won three straight matches to reach the finals. Buchanan defeated Effingham St. Anthony's Michael Kaldas, Olney's Reid Snyder and Flora's Mason Beckham by identical 6-0, 6-1 scores, before losing to top-seeded Kyele Mossman of Teutopolis in the championship match, 2-6, 1-6.
The second-place finish was an improvement for Buchanan, who qualified last year after finishing fourth in the Sectional.
Meanwhile, Lucas Blunier also won his first match over Newton's Justin Zumbahlen (6-1, 7-5), but was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
Also for RHS, both doubles teams - Will Hawkins and Brendan Inboden and Josh Rosborough and Ely Parker - lost their first round matches.
As a team, Robinson finished fourth among the 10 teams that scored with 12 points. Teutopolis easily won the meet with 28 points, while Olney (21) and Effingham (13) rounded out the top three.
