A tightly-contested match went the way of Robinson High School's boys' tennis team Monday (April 1).
The Maroons picked up a narrow victory on the road, edging Effingham, 5-4, to remain unbeaten on the young season.
"It was a really close match tonight," RHS head coach Tom Buchanan said. "We fought hard for each win. I was really proud of how we played."
Robinson built a 4-2 lead after singles play, as Kaden Buchanan, Josh Rosborough, Will Hawkins and Trayton Tragesser all picked up wins.
But, the Maroons had to hold on in doubles, as they lost the first two matches before the No. 3 team of Buchanan and Ely Parker came through with a victory to earn the decisive point.
"We got things going in the right direction with singles and it was super important to come off the singles courts up 4-2," Buchanan said. "Nos. 1 and 2 doubles played hard and smart at times, but it came down to No. 3 doubles. This was a big win for us. We lost 3-6 to Effingham last year and they had everyone back."
