Panthers, Lady Panthers lose to Olney
Sports Editor

Neither Oblong squad could find their way into the win column Monday (April 1), as the OHS baseball and softball teams both dropped non-conference games to visiting Olney.

In the softball game, the Lady Panthers scored in four of seven at-bats, but visiting Olney scored in five, including multiple runs on three different occasions, sending OHS to an 11-6 defeat.

Oblong trailed 6-0 after giving up two runs in the second and four in the third and faced a 9-2 deficit by the end of the end of the fourth inning. After Olney tacked on another run in the sixth, Oblong scored twice in the bottom of the inning to pull within 10-4. Olney added another run in the top of the seventh before Oblong scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to complete the scoring.

Nyah Laino led OHS (3-4) at the plate with a double, a single and a run scored, while Alicia Manhart singled twice and scored two runs. Abbie Dart posted two base hits, a run batted in and a run scored, Aireka Burke tripled, knocked in a run and scored a run, Macie Stephens singled and drove in a run and Kenzi McIntosh, Allison Miller and Kara Reider added a base hit apiece.

Jenna Bailey was tagged with the loss on the mound, giving up eight runs (six earned) on eight hits, while walking two and striking out one in three-plus innings. Miller went the rest of the way, giving up three unearned runs on four hits and struck out one in four innings of relief.

In the baseball game, after being no-hit in their last outing, the Panthers managed to get one hit this time, but still scored no runs in a 10-0 loss to Olney.

Olney grabbed an early lead with a run in the first, then plated four runs in the second and another in the third for a 6-0 advantage. The Tigers then added four more runs in the sixth to win the game via the 10-run rule.

Conner Potts had the lone hit for OHS (1-4), a single in the sixth inning.

Brayton Akers suffered the loss on the mound, allowing six runs (two earned) on two hits and three walks in three and one-third innings. Jonathan Littlejohn gave up three unearned runs on two hits and struck out two in one and two-thirds innings of relief and Grant Kidwell struck out a pair of batters in a scoreless inning of work.
