Runs were hard to come by for Lincoln Trail College's softball team last week.

The Lady Statesmen scored just three runs in four games, but still managed to win one of those contests.

Against Olney Central College Wednesday (March 27), LTC split the twinbill, winning game one 2-1 and losing game two 12-1.

In game one, OCC struck first with a run in the second, but LTC tied the game with a run in the fifth and scored what turned out to be the winning run in the bottom of the sixth,

Madison Williams led LTC at the plate with two singles and a run scored, while Taylor Bayer and Lexie Simmons posted a base hit and a run batted in apiece, Natalie Weaver doubled and singled, McKenzie Pirtle added a base hit and Kiley Cook scored a run.

Bayer earned the win on the mound, allowing a run on eight hits, while walking three and striking out three in seven innings.

In game two, OCC broke a scoreless tie with a three-run third innings, then busted the game open with a nine-run fifth inning. Lincoln Trail plated a run in the bottom of the fifth, but it was not enough to prevent the game from ending via the mercy rule.

Alyssa Garo led the offense for LTC with a solo home run, while Weaver added a pair of base hits and Kylie Terrel and Simmons each singled.

Pirtle took the loss on the mound, allowing 12 runs (11 earned) on 16 hits, while walking two and striking out three in five innings.

On Thursday (March 28), LTC dropped a pair of games at Lake Land by a combined score of 16-0, as they lost the opener 9-0 and the nightcap 7-0.

In game one, Lake Land scored in every inning, plating two runs in the first, one in the second, four in the third and two in the fourth.

The game was stopped after five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.

Taylor Bayer and Lexie Simmons had a single apiece for the only offense for the Lady Statesmen.

Kasey Bell suffered the loss on the mound, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 12 hits and a walk in three innings. Courtney Owens finished up, allowing a run on three hits in an inning of relief.

In game two, LTC again fell behind early, giving up two runs in the first, then the Lady Statesmen allowed one in the second, three in the third and another in the sixth.

McKenzie Pirtle led LTC at the plate with two singles, while Kylie Terrel doubled and Bell, Natalie Weaver and Maecy Speece added a base hit apiece.

Simmons took the loss on the mound, allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and two walks in six innings.
