Strong efforts led Palestine-Hutsonville's track teams to strong finishes in multi-team meets at Flora Wednesday (March 27).
The Pioneers won eight events on their way to winning a six-team meet, while the Lady Pioneers finished first in just one event, but fared well in many others on their way to a second-place finish in a seven-team meet.
In the boys' meet, Palestine-Hutsonville totaled 107 points to edge Flora, who finished with 101. Red Hill came in third with 86 points, followed by Lawrenceville (67), Oblong (19) and Webber Township (0).
Chase Knoblett and Nick Booth led the Pioneers by winning three events apiece. He finished first in the 110 hurdles in 16.00, the 300 hurdles in 43.52 and the high jump at 5-11, while Booth won the 100 with a time of 11.50, the 200 in 24.50 and the long jump at 20-6.
Nathan More also won the 800 with a time of 2:14.65, as did the 400 relay team of Booth, Colton Hayes, Blaize Dedrick and Knoblett with a time of 45.35.
Finishing second for the Pioneers were More in the 1600 (5;24.56), Brendyn Piper in the discus (100-5), Gavin Bridgewater in the triple jump (31-8) and the 800 relay team of Hayes, Dedrick, Daylon Nantz and Travis Rinard (1:42.87), while Hayes finished third in the 200 (24.58).
For Oblong, Garrett Tracy led the Panthers with a second-place finish in the high jump (5-6) and a third-place effort in the triple jump (30-6), while Tristan Sablone was second in the shot put (35-3) and sixth in the discus (78-9), Carson Fancil was sixth in the shot put (28-1) and Dalton Jayne was sixth in the long jump (15-0).
In the girls' meet, Palestine-Hutsonville finished with 80 points, placing them behind only Lawrenceville, who won with 116 points. Flora came in third with 68, followed by Red Hill (58), Oblong (30), Louisville-North Clay (7) and Webber Township (3).
Kendra Biggs was the lone winner for the Lady Pioneers, as she finished first in the shot put with a throw of 32-3, while she was also second in the discus with a throw of 100-10.
Also finishing second were Macy Biggs in the 100 (14.02) and 200 (29.61), Kaylee Pettigrew in the 100 hurdles (21.72) and 300 hurdles (1:07.62), Summer Agan in the shot put (32-1), Grayce Hightshoe in the high jump (4-4), the 400 relay team of Macy Biggs, Megan Burton, Allison Dunlap and Paige Matthews (58.82) and the 800 relay team of Macy Biggs, Burton, Kendra Biggs and Matthews (2:01.52).
For Oblong, Shyanna Chapman led the Lady Panthers by winning the discus with a throw of 125-4 and finishing third in the shot put at 29-8, while Paige Mendenhall was second in the triple jump (26-0).
Also for OHS, Alyssa Potts was third in the triple jump (25-11) and sixth in the discus (64-11), Madison Newman was fourth in the 400 (1:19.02), the 400 relay team of Maycee Decker, Jalyn Collier, Newman and Carman Worcester was also fourth (1:08.16) and Worcester was fifth in the long jump (13-3).
