Statesmen sweep W. Georgia Tech
| Not only did Lincoln Trail College's baseball team not split a doubleheader, the Statesmen find themselves on a three-game winning streak.|
Lincoln Trail has now won three straight games after sweeping the second of two doubleheaders against West Georgia Tech Monday afternoon (Feb. 25), as they took game one 3-1 and game two 7-2. Both twinbills (Sunday and Monday) were played in Hoover, Ala., due to wet conditions in Georgia.
"For the most part, I was very pleased," LTC head coach Kevin Bowers said. "I have been incredibly pleased with our pitching, but we still need to shore up the back end of our bullpen. We are still mixing and matching with our line-up and haven't done a great job of situational hitting and moving runners, but we are finding ways to score runs."
In game one Monday, LTC struck first with two runs in the second, while West Georgia Tech cut the margin in half with a run in the fourth. The Statesmen tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth and were able to hold on for the win.
Bryant Shellenbarger led LTC at the plate with a double and a run batted in, while Bryson Bloomer doubled and scored a run. T.J. Janahashi posted a base hit and a run batted in, Roy Thurman knocked in a run and John Kehoe and Christian Bault each scored a run.
Conor Steinbaugh went the distance on the mound to earn the complete-game victory, allowing a run in four hits, while walking one and striking out five in seven innings.
In game two, LTC scored a run in the first to open the scoring, then plated two runs in the fourth for a 3-0 lead. The Statesmen added two more runs in the fifth for a 5-0 advantage, then each team scored two runs in the sixth to complete the scoring.
Janahashi led the LTC offense with a double, a single, two runs scored and a run batted in, while Kehoe doubled, singled and scored a run. Shellenbarger, Jack Gallagher and Nick Rodriguez posted a double, a run batted in and a run scored apiece, Noah Reed singled and drove in a run, Gavin McGaughey doubled and Bloomer added a run batted in and a run scored.
Casey Bargo picked up the win on the mound, allowing two hits, walking three and striking out seven in five scoreless innings. Jon McGee gave up two runs on two hits and struck out one in an inning of relief and Mitchell Spencer struck out two of the three batters he faced in a perfect frame.
