A close game got away from Robinson High School's boys' basketball team late and the end result was a non-conference road loss.
The Maroons led at the end of the first three quarters, but could not hang onto the lead in the final period en route to a 69-63 loss at Cumberland (Jan. 29).
Robinson held a 16-14 lead after one quarter, then each team scored 15 points in the second quarter to make the score 31-29 at halftime. The Maroons maintained that slim advantage after three quarters, as each team netted 17 points and RHS had a 48-46 lead entering the final period. However, Cumberland was able to outscore the Maroons 23-15 over the final eight minutes to pull out the victory.
Chance Black led RHS with 26 points, including four three-pointer and a 9-10 performance at the free throw line, while Brayden Childress tossed 18 points with a pair of three-pointers. Dylan Smith also reached double figures with 12 points, Kaden Lassen netted five and Jeffrey Goble scored two.
Zach Wolke led Cumberland with 23 points, 13 of which came in the second half, while Brennyn Cutts tossed in 21 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter and Wyatt Napier also cracked double digits with 18, with 14 of them coming after halftime.
Robinson did roll to a 44-19 win in the junior varsity game.
Caleb Trimble led RHS with 10 points, while Jeffrey Goble scored seven.
