Wins have been hard to come by for Oblong High School's boys' basketball team this season, but they finally got another one Friday night.

The Panthers ran away for a 63-39 win over Martinsville in the consolation game of the Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Division Tournament at Cumberland High School Friday night (Jan. 25), but could not carry that momentum into Saturday (Jan. 26), as they lost the ninth place game of the LOVC Tournament at Arcola to Okaw Valley, 58-30.

On Friday, Oblong raced out to an 18-4 lead after one quarter and never looked back on their way to a lopsided win. The Panthers held a 32-17 lead at halftime, while Martinsville outscored OHS 15-11 in the third quarter to make the score 43-32, only for Oblong to outscore Martinsville 20-7 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Three players reached double figures for OHS, led by Nate Meese with 18 points. Diego Lliteras tossed in 12 points, Conner Potts scored 10, Caleb Black netted eight, Zane Belford dropped in seven, Caleb Newman added five and Hayden Johnson had three.

Lane Ryan led Martinsville with 10 points, while Grant Haenig and Sebastien Herrera each scored eight.

In other games Friday, Tri-County knocked off top-seeded Heritage-Villa Grove 72-66 in the championship game, while Oblong ran past Martinsville 63-39 in the consolation game.

In Saturday's game, Oblong stayed close for a half, but couldn't keep up after halftime. The Panthers trailed 9-5 after one quarter, then outscored Okaw Valley 14-11 in the second quarter to pull within 20-19 at halftime. However, Okaw Valley outscored OHS 25-8 in the third quarter to open up a 45-27 lead, then Oblong was outscored 13-3 in the fourth quarter to prevent any chance of a comeback.

Potts and Meese shared scoring honors for OHS with nine points apiece, while Belford tossed in five, Johnson netted three and Tristan Sablone and Timothee Staley each scored two.

Cameron Sharp led Okaw Valley with 16 points, while Eli Hagerman also cracked double digits with 10.

In other final round games Saturday, Argenta-Oreana beat Martinsville 55-41 in the 11th-place game, Blue Ridge downed Hutsonville-Palestine 63-37 in the seventh-place game, Cumberland got past Arcola 51-46 in the fifth-place game, Heritage-Villa Grove thumped Cerro Gordo-Bement 59-34 in the third-place game and Decatur Lutheran beat Tri-County 72-64 in the championship game.
