Offensive woes prevented Hutsonville-Palestine's boys' basketball team from finding the win column as they wrapped up conference tournament play over the weekend.

The Tigers struggled to keep pace with Cumberland in a 63-47 loss in the third-place game of the Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Division Tournament Friday night (Jan. 25), then struggled even more Saturday (Jan. 26) in a 63-37 loss to Farmer City-Blue Ridge in the seventh-place game of the LOVC Tournament finals at Arcola.

On Friday, Hutsonville-Palestine trailed 13-10 after one quarter and faced a 27-20 deficit at halftime, then were outscored 19-14 in the third quarter and 17-13 in the fourth quarter, allowing Cumberland to pull away for the win.

Evan Newlin led Hutsonville-Palestine with 19 points, two rebounds and two steals, while Trent Matthews posted 14 points, four rebounds and two steals, Jerry Gower contributed eight points and three rebounds and Gary Higginbotham netted six points, two steals and one rebound.

Brennyn Cutts led Cumberland with 19 points, while Zach Wolke was also in double figures with 16.

In other games Friday, Tri-County knocked off top-seeded Heritage-Villa Grove 72-66 in the championship game, while Oblong ran past Martinsville 63-39 in the consolation game.

On Saturday, the Tigers dug themselves an 18-4 hole after one quarter and never recovered. Hutsonville-Palestine trailed 31-13 at halftime, then were outscored 18-12 in the third quarter and 14-12 in the fourth to reach the final totals.

Zeke Nave led Hutsonville-Palestine with 11 points, three rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot, while Will Newlin posted four points, four rebounds and one blocked shot. Evan Newlin recorded four points, one rebound and one steal, Gower and Higginbotham contributed four points and one rebound apiece, Matthews totaled three points, one rebound and one steal, Ruger Berry collected two points and two rebounds, Jebb Revalee netted two points and two steals, Aaron Nehls added two points and one rebound and Jess Newlin had one point and three rebounds.

Four players reached double figures for Blue Ridge, led by Zach Stephens with 14 points. Nick Burrow was right behind with 13, followed by Wayne Bowns with 12 and Lane Nichols with 11.
