It was a tale of two halves Monday night (Dec. 3), but unfortunately for Robinson High School's girls' basketball team, their good half did not outweigh their bad.
The Lady Maroons nearly overcame a 16-point halftime deficit, but came up just short in a 47-44 loss at Casey-Westfield in Little Illini Conference play.
"We had a slow start and were down 16 at the half, but we made some second half changes and decided we would scrap our way out of the hole," RHS head coach Sherry Bopp said. "We nearly came back to win it. I am very proud of the girls for not giving up and deciding they weren't going down without a fight. I hope we come out with that same attitude on Thursday against Newton."
Robinson fell behind 16-6 after one quarter, then was outscored 14-8 in the second quarter for a 30-14 halftime deficit. The Lady Maroons outscored Casey-Westfield 16-9 in the third quarter to pull within 39-30, then won the fourth quarter 14-8 only to fall a couple of baskets shy of a comeback victory.
Ella Florkowski led RHS with 15 points, while Andrea Schalburg also reached double figures with 13. Jaedyn Johnson tossed in eight points, Lauren Weber netted six and Jade Clapp added two.
JaeLynn Riggleman led Casey-Westfield with 24 points, while no other player scored more than seven.
Robinson did win the junior varsity game 36-9.
Lucy List led RHS with 13 points, while Bri Robb scored eight.
