Tigers falter in second half, fall to Marshall, 79-58, in non-league play

Points came in bunches for the opposition Friday night (Nov. 30) and the end result was a lopsided loss for Hutsonville-Palestine's boys' basketball team.

The Tigers allowed more than 20 points in three of four periods en route to a 79-58 loss to Marshall in a non-conference contest.

Hutsonville-Palestine fell behind 22-11 after one quarter, but then outscored Marshall 17-11 in the second quarter to pull within 33-28 at halftime. However, Marshall outscored the Tigers 24-14 in the third quarter and 22-16 in the fourth to pull away for the win.

Zeke Nave led Hutsonville-Palestine with 10 points, while Will Newlin scored eight. Trent Matthews and Jerry Gower tossed in seven points apiece, Evan Newlin, Jess Newlin, Gary Higginbotham and Ruger Berry each netted six and Adam Pickering added two.

Jesse Burdick led Marshall with 16 points, while Isaac Wood and Skyler McManus were also in double figures with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Hutsonville-Palestine also lost the junior varsity game 66-33.

Gavin Besing led the Tigers with eight points, while Higginbotham and Kainen Pettigrew each scored six.
