Lady Statesmen hammer LUB JV, 93-41
Sports Editor

Domination from start to finish allowed Lincoln Trail College's women's basketball team to pick up a lopsided win Wednesday night (Nov. 28).

The Lady Statesmen raced out to an early lead and never looked back in a 93-41 over Lindenwood-Belleville JV.

"When we went over there (Nov. 10), we came out flat and let them hang around," LTC head coach Scott Sparks said. "That gave them energy and it was a dogfight the whole game. Our point of emphasis was to not allow that to happen again. We have grown up a lot since then, we learned from that experience and we didn't let off the gas for two and a half quarters."

Lincoln Trail was in control throughout, as they scored the first 21 points of the game and held a 23-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. It was more of the same in the second quarter, as LTC outscored LUB JV 22-9 to make the score 45-16 at halftime. The Lady Statesmen turned it up a notch in the third quarter, outscoring LUB 32-16 to extend their advantage to 77-32 heading into the final period. Lincoln Trail also won the fourth quarter 16-9 to reach the final totals.

"We came out and played hard and did what we needed to do," Sparks said. "We wanted to put them away in the third quarter and we came out and turned it on."

The Lady Statesmen dominated in nearly every aspect, as they forced 28 turnovers, while committing just 11 themselves. Lincoln Trail also outrebounded Lindenwood-Belleville JV 50-42. The Lady Statesmen shot very well from the field, making 36-76 shots overall (47 percent), including 27-53 from two-point range (51 percent) and 9-23 from three-point range (39 percent), while Lindenwood-Belleville JV hit just 16-64 shot attempts (25 percent), which included an 11-32 effort from inside the arc (34 percent) and a 5-32 performance from long distance (16 percent). Lincoln Trail was also 12-22 from the free throw line (55 percent), while Lindenwood-Belleville JV hit 4-6 foul shots (67 percent).

We wanted to get after it defensively," Spark said. "We wanted to have at least 14 deflections and we did that. We wanted to make more free throws than they attempted and we did that. We wanted to get post touches and we did a good job identifying our post players and feeding them."

Alexis True led LTC with 23 points, two rebounds, two steals, two assists and one blocked shot off the bench, while Olivia Bryant posted 19 points and one steal. Kaitlin Adams totaled 15 points, six rebounds, six steals and four assists, Britney Epperson contributed 13 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots and one steal, Taylor Bradley recorded six points, nine rebounds, four assists and one steal, Jaylynn Brown collected six points, five assists, four steals, three rebounds and two blocked shots, Shamarrhea Young chipped in five points, nine rebounds, one steal and one assist, Andrea Adams netted three points, four rebounds, one steal and one blocked shot and Lyndsey Mulvey added three points and two rebounds.

No player reached double figures for Lindenwood-Belleville JV, as they were led by Micaela Bryan with nine points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal and Grety Minculeasa with eight points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots.
