Lady Tigers down Martinsville in two
Sports Editor

It wasn't their best showing, but it was good enough for Hutsonville-Palestine's volleyball team to get in the win column Tuesday night (Oct. 9).

The Lady Tigers picked up their first conference win of the season by downing visiting Martinsville in two sets, 25-18, 25-20, in their Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Division match.

"It showed the girls had a couple days off because we were sluggish tonight," HHS-PHS head coach Shandy Matthews said. "Each game we are playing better as a team, which helps. We played good enough to win tonight. We just have to keep moving, get more aggressive and attack more."

Mackenzie Stephenson led Hutsonville-Palestine with eight points on 12-12 serves with two aces, along with 15 spikes and 14 digs. Macy Biggs posted five points on nine good serves, 15 digs and nine spikes, Paige Matthews totaled five points on seven good serves with one ace, six spikes with two kills, seven good sets and seven digs, Ashlyn Matthews contributed four points on seven good serves with one ace, 21 spikes with one kill and 14 digs, Isabel Sheets collected three points on five good serves, 24 spikes with five kills and 15 digs and Marah Matthews netted three points on six good serves, 55 good sets and seven digs.

Hutsonville-Palestine dropped the junior varsity match in three sets, 26-28, 25-19, 8-15.

Grayce Hightshoe led Hutsonville-Palestine with 11 points on 15 good serves with two aces and 10 spikes with three kills, while Kelsey Hites posted eight points on 11 good serves with three aces, McKenna Love totaled five points on nine good serves, 45 good sets and nine digs and Katie Draper added 20 spikes with six kills and 12 digs.
