Panthers lose to Casey-Westfield, 13-3
Sports Editor

Two rough innings turned a close game into a lopsided defeat for Oblong High School's baseball team (May 8).

The Panthers hung with visiting Casey-Westfield through four innings, but gave up 10 runs over the next two frames en route to a 13-3 loss in the non-conference contest.

Neither team scored until the third inning, when Casey-Westfield struck for three runs. Oblong responded with two runs in the bottom of the third to get within 3-2 and the score stayed that way until the top of the fifth, when Casey-Westfield broke through for six runs to make the score 9-2. Oblong got a run back in the bottom of the inning, only for Casey-Westfield to tack on four more in the top of the sixth.

The game was called after six innings due to the 10-run rule.

Tanner Otey led OHS at the plate with two singles and two runs batted in, while Kacey Cheek singled and scored twice. Josh Bailey added a pair of base hits, Logan Richards doubled and Nate Meese scored a run.

Otey also suffered the loss on the mound, allowing nine runs, five earned, on five hits, while walking three and striking out two in four and one-third innings. Bailey gave up four runs, two earned, on four hits with one walk and one strikeout in an inning of relief and Richards walked one and struck out two in two-thirds of an inning.
