A pair of non-conference games resulted in a pair of lopsided losses for Hutsonville-Palestine's baseball and softball teams Tuesday (May 8).

Hutsonville-Palestine dropped games to Paris, losing the baseball game 22-1 and the softball game 15-0.

In the baseball game, neither team scored in the first inning, but things quickly changed in the second, as Paris erupted for eight runs to take control. Paris plated three more in the third, then broke through for eight more in the fourth and another three in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Hutsonville-Palestine scratched out a run in the bottom of the fifth to avoid being shut out, but it was not nearly enough.

Parker Michael had the only base hits in the game for Hutsonville-Palestine, both singles, while Max Illyes scored the lone run.

Michael also suffered the loss on the mound, giving up five runs on two hits and three walks in one-plus innings. Jess Newlin went the rest of the way, allowing 17 runs, nine earned, on 17 hits, while walking two and striking out three in four innings.

In the softball game, Paris opened the scoring with a run in the second, then plated six in the third and four each in the fourth and fifth to pull away for the win.

Hutsonville-Palestine managed four hits in the game, as Katelyn Wilber, Abby Bezy, Halle Jackson and Kelsie Adams had a single apiece.

Wilber took the loss on the mound, allowing nine runs on 11 hits, while walking two and striking out three in three-plus innings. Lindsay Ryan went the rest of the way, giving up six runs, four earned, on two hits, while walking five and striking out one.
