Tigers sweep LOVC Southeast doubleheader from Tri-County
| Two games resulted in two wins for Hutsonville-Palestine's baseball team Friday (May 4).|
The Tigers picked up a doubleheader sweep over visiting Tri-County, winning their Little Okaw Valley Conference contests 6-1 and 11-3.
In game one, Hutsonville-Palestine plated two runs in the second inning, then added two more in the third and another in the fourth for a 5-0 lead. Tri-County scored their lone run in the bottom of the fourth, while Hutsonville-Palestine got it back in the top of the fifth and held on for the win.
Brennen Burkett led the Tigers with a home run and two runs batted in, while Jess Newlin doubled, singled, knocked in two runs and scored a run. Jebb Revalee added a double and a run scored, Will Newlin singled twice and scored a run, Max Illyes added a base hit, Evan Newlin drove in a run and scored a run and Kegan Cooper scored a run.
Burkett also earned the win on the mound, giving up an unearned run on two hits while striking out four in four innings. Will Newlin tossed a scoreless fifth, allowing a hit, walking one and striking out one.
In game two, Hutsonville-Palestine again jumped out to an early lead with a run in the first, but Tri-County answered with two in the second. However, the Tigers responded with three runs in their half of the second and two more in the third to take a 6-2 lead. Tri-County plated a run in the fourth, only for Hutsonville-Palestine to strike for five in the bottom half to put the game out of reach.
Burkett again led the offense for the Tigers with a home run, a single, three runs batted in and two runs scored, while Jess Newlin singled twice and scored a run. Wyatt Kennedy added a base hit and two runs batted in, Revalee singled and scored twice, Evan Newlin singled, drove in a run and scored a run, Will Newlin, Parker Michael and Illyes each had a base hit and a run scored and Cooper scored two run and drove in a run.
Evan Newlin was credited with the win on the mound, allowing two unearned runs on three walks with one strikeout. Isaac York tossed the final three frames, giving up a run on three hits and three walks.
