Nine named to All-LOVC Southeast teams

A total of nine local basketball players were recognized recently for their achievements on the court by being named to one of the All-Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Division teams.

Oblong was represented by six players (four girls, two boys), while Hutsonville-Palestine had a pair of boys selected and Palestine-Hutsonville's girls' team had one selection.

On the girls' side, Oblong juniors Abbie Dart and Nyah Laino were both First Team selections.

Dart, a unanimous choice, averaged 12.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 1.9 assists per game for the Lady Panthers this season, while Laino finished the year with averages of 9.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.4 steals per contest.

Both local schools were represented on the Second Team, as senior Summer Johnson was chosen, as was Palestine-Hutsonville sophomore Summer Agan.

Johnson posted averages of 6.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.3 assists per game for the Lady Panthers.

Meanwhile, Agan averaged 12 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game for the Lady Pioneers this season.

Also tabbed for Oblong was senior Camryn Mendenhall, who was named to the Honorable Mention Team.

During her final season for the Lady Panthers, Mendenhall averaged 4.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.8 steals and just under one assist per game.

On the boys' side, both local squads received one First Team and one Second Team selection apiece.

Representing Oblong on the First Team was senior Kacey Cheek, while chosen from Hutsonville-Palestine was senior Isaac York.

Cheek led OHS with averages of 15.1 points, 10.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.2 blocked shots and just under one steal per game.

York topped Hutsonville-Palestine with averages of 16 points and seven rebounds per contest.

Local Second Team selections were Oblong junior Nathan Meese and Hutsonville-Palestine junior Jerry Gower.

Meese averaged 12.4 points, 1.4 assists, 1.2 rebounds and just under one steal per game for the Panthers this season, while Gower posted averages of 11 points and eight rebounds per contest for the Tigers.
