Lincoln Trail softball team picks up two more wins in Myrtle Beach

Two more games resulted in two more wins for Lincoln Trail College's softball team Wednesday (March 7).

The Lady Statesmen continued their strong play on their trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., as the picked up wins over Penn State-Beaver (13-3) and Hagerstown (Md.) Community College (5-4).

Against Penn State-Beaver, Lincoln Trail broke a scoreless tie with six runs in the bottom of the second, but Penn State-Beaver cut the lead in half with a three-run third. However, LTC responded with five runs in the bottom of the third to make the score 11-3, then tacked on two more in the fourth.

The game was stopped after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Kylie Terrel led LTC at the plate with a double, two singles, three runs batted in and two runs scored, while Amanda Craig homered, drove in a pair of runs and scored three times. McKenzie Pirtle posted a double, a single, a run batted in and a run scored, Tessa Laino singled and scored twice, Halen Revalee knocked in two runs and scored twice, Natalie Weaver drove in a run and scored a run and Kiley Cook and Kasey Bell each scored a run.

Hayley Smalley picked up the win on the mound, allowing three unearned runs on three hits, while walking three and striking out four in five innings.

Against Hagerstown, LTC trailed 2-1 after three innings, but plated two runs in the fifth to take the lead for good and tacked on two more in the sixth for a 5-2 advantage. Hagerstown rallied for two runs in the seventh, but the Lady Statesmen were able to slam the door and preserve the win.

Craig led the offense for LTC with a double, two singles and two runs scored, while Terrel homered, knocked in two runs and scored twice. Pirtle and Alyssa Garo posted a base hit and a run batted in apiece, Revalee added a single and Bell scored a run.

Pirtle earned the win on the mound, allowing four runs, two earned, on 11 hits, while walking two and striking out two in seven innings.
