The postseason came to an abrupt end for Lincoln Trail College's women's basketball team Tuesday night (March 6).

Lincoln Trail was blitzed in their postseason opener, as the sixth-seeded Lady Statesmen dropped a 79-41 decision to third-seeded John A. Logan College in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA District P Tournament.

A slow start doomed the Lady Statesmen, as they fell behind 14-1 and never recovered. The Lady Statesmen trailed 15-6 after one quarter, then were outscored 23-14 in the second quarter for a 38-20 halftime deficit. Things didn't get any better in the second half, as LTC was outscored 18-12 in the third quarter and 23-9 in the fourth to reach the final margin.

Kaitlyn Howe led LTC with 10 points, three rebounds and two assists, while Mykiah Jones posted nine points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal. Bre Spalding collected seven points, six rebounds, one steal and one blocked shot, Taylor Bradley contributed four points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots, Lauren Hipsher totaled three points, three rebounds and two assists, Shamarrhea Young recorded two points and two rebounds, Alexis McDowell and Kiana Wininger each netted two points and one rebound and Jamesha Pritchard tossed in two points.

Five players reached double figures for John A. Logan, led by Kaili Bacon and Destiny Cozart with 14 points apiece, while Shaniya Whitsell posted 12 points and 11 rebounds and Alicia Hornbuckle and Miriah Donelson each scored 10 points.

In other quarterfinal games Tuesday, top-seeded Wabash Valley rolled past eighth-seeded Kaskaskia 97-43, second-seeded Vincennes hammered seventh-seeded Southwestern Illinois 92-54 and fourth-seeded Olney Central downed fifth-seeded Southeastern Illinois 62-56.

The tournament continues at Rend Lake College with semifinal games Thursday and the championship game Friday.

Lincoln Trail ended its season with a 15-13 record.
