Sports Editor

Runs came in bunches for both teams Monday (March 5), but Lincoln Trail College's baseball team managed to put together a few more bunches than the opposition.

The Statesmen scored multiple runs in five different innings on their way to a 19-11 win at Snead State (Ala.) in the final game of their road trip.

A high-scoring first inning saw LTC trail 5-3 after both teams had batted, then the margin grew to 6-3 after Snead State plated another run in the third. Lincoln Trail evened the score with three runs in the fourth, only for Snead State to score four times in the fifth to take a 10-6 lead. The Statesmen answered with four runs in the sixth to tie the game again, then took the lead for good with two runs in the seventh. Snead State added a run in the bottom of the seventh to make the score 12-11, but LTC struck for seven runs in the ninth to seal the win.

Bryson Bloomer led LTC at the plate with four hits, including a double, along with four runs scored and two runs batted in. Thomas Cessna homered, singled, knocked in three runs and scored twice, Tanner Robins singled four times and scored three runs, Tucker Greer posted a double, a single, four runs batted in and three runs scored, Coby Taylor homered and knocked in three runs, Jacob Gonzalez singled three times, drove in four runs and scored a run, Ian Heffley singled twice and scored two runs, Joel Quirin singled, knocked in two runs and scored a run, Christian Bault added a base hit and Justin Snow and Jose Ramos each scored a run.

Eddie Rodriguez earned the win in relief, as he retired all three batters he faced, including one via strikeout, in a scoreless inning of relief. Starter Joey Ivey went three innings, giving up six runs - only one of them earned - on seven hits and striking out six. Jack Hendrix allowed four runs, one earned, on one hit, while walking three and striking out two in two innings of work, Colin Kriminger gave up a run and walked two in an inning of work and Brady Bowling struck out two of the six batters he faced in two perfect innings to pick up a save.
