Spring break has been kind to Lincoln Trail College's softball team thus far.

After dropping their first four games of the season in Tennessee, the Lady Statesmen have found the east coast much more to their liking, as they have picked up four wins in as many games in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Lincoln Trail opened with wins Sunday (March 4) over Penn State-Schuylkill (11-3) and Garrett (Md.) College (19-1), then scored wins over College of Lake County (3-0) and Alpena (Mich.) Community College (11-2) (March 5).

Against Penn State-Schuylkill, LTC trailed 3-0 after two innings, but responded with two runs in the third and two more in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead, then exploded for seven runs in the sixth to break the game open.

Halen Revalee led LTC at the plate with two doubles, four runs batted in and two runs scored, while Kiley Cook doubled, singled twice, drove in two runs and scored a run. Kylie Terrel posted a double, a single and three runs scored, McKenzie Pirtle doubled, singled, drove in a run and scored a run, Alyssa Garo and Amanda Craig contributed a base hit, a run batted in and a run scored apiece and Tessa Laino and Sydnee Carey each scored a run.

Hayley Smalley earned the win on the mound, allowing three runs on six hits, while walking three and striking out four in six innings.

Against Garrett, LTC scored in every frame, starting with a nine-run outburst in the first inning to take control. The Lady Statesmen then plated six more runs in the second and two more in the third for a 17-0 advantage. Garrett broke up the shutout with a run in the top of the fourth before LTC tacked on two more in the bottom of the fourth to complete the scoring.

Kasey Bell doubled, singled, drove in three runs and scored twice, Craig singled twice, knocked in three runs and scored three times, Cook singeld twice, drove in a run and scored a run, Miranda Denman doubled, scored three runs and knocked in a run, Trinity Anders singled and scored a run, Revalee scored twice and knocked in a run, Hannah Dulaney scored twice and Smalley scored a run.

Pirtle was credited with the win in relief, allowing two hits and striking out two in three scoreless innings of work. Anders started and went two innings, giving up a run on two hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

Against Lake County, the game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth, when LTC pushed across a run. The Lady Statesmen then tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the sixth to secure the victory.

Craig led LTC at the plate with a double and a run scored, while Cook singled, knocked in a run and scored a run. Garo and Terrel each posted a base hit and a run batted in, Carey singled and scored a run, Bell doubled and Pirtle added a base hit.

Against Alpena, LTC struck first with a run in the second, but Alpena countered with single runs in the third and fourth. Lincoln Trail answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead, then erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the fifth to bring the eight-run mercy rule into effect.
