Momentum is a huge thing in sports and Oblong High School's girls' basketball team was able to seize it late and pick up their second straight victory.

After salvaging a win to close out the Lady Maroons Thanksgiving Invitational at Robinson over the weekend, the Lady Panthers rallied late in a back-and-forth contest with Edwards County on their way to picking up a 50-46 win in the non-conference contest (Nov. 27).

"It was a great game," OHS head coach Tim Johnson said. "They would make a run, then we would. We got down nine in the fourth, but we didn't miss anything after that."

Oblong dug themselves a 12-5 hole after one quarter, but countered by outscoring Edwards County 14-7 in the second quarter to tie the score at 19-19 at halftime. Edwards County responded by outscoring OHS 13-10 in the third quarter to take a 32-29 lead and led by as many as nine in the fourth quarter, but Oblong outscored Edwards County 21-14 over the final eight minutes to pull out the come-from-behind win.

Nyah Laino led OHS with 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Samantha Johnson posted 14 points, five rebounds and three steals. Abbie Dart contributed 11 points, six rebounds, one steal and one assist, Belle Kemp collected eight points, five rebounds and two assists and Summer Johnson added three points, five rebounds and two assists.

Caelyn Nelson led Edwards County with 20 points, while Malia Schmittler also cracked double figures with 15.

In the junior varsity game, Oblong came out on the short end of a 13-12 decision. Katie Cheek led OHS with 10 points, five rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot, while Aireka Burke posted two points, three rebounds and two steals.
