LTC volleyball ends season with loss at Parkland in Region quarters
| Winning their first match of the season was a huge step for Lincoln Trail College's volleyball team, but their prize for winning their opening match of the postseason was a date with the No. 2-ranked and two-time defending national champion Parkland College in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Division II Region 24 Tournament Wednesday (Nov. 1).|
The results went about as expected, but the Lady Statesmen did not go down without a fight, despite losing in three sets, 15-25, 10-25, 14-25.
"I am proud of the way we played against a nationally-ranked team with a lot of offensive weapons," LTC head coach Dana Goodwin said. "The game was a lot closer than the scores indicate, especially in sets one and three. We had several long rallies in each set."
Mia McCoskey led LTC with five good serves, including one ace, 17 spikes with four kills, eight digs and one stuff block, while Samantha Brookman posted nine good serves, 11 spikes with three kills and four stuff blocks. Haley Towle contributed six good serves, 11 spikes with three kills and nine digs, Rachel Graham totaled 23 good sets with six assists, three good serves and three digs and Kaylee Wagner recorded 16 digs and five good serves.
"The girls never gave up and kept fighting," Goodwin said. "It was a good way to end the season and something to build on for next year."
Lincoln Trail ended its season with a 1-25 record.
