Injury-plagued Pioneers lose to Martinsville in shortened game, 45-6
JOSH BROWN
Sports Editor

A rough season got even rougher for Palestine-Hutsonville's football team Friday night (Oct. 6).

Not only did the Pioneers remain winless on the season, but injuries piled up to the point they could not even complete the game in their 45-6 Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Division loss at Martinsville.

Palestine-Hutsonville started the game with just 19 players in uniform and with a minute left in the third quarter a seventh player went out of the game with an injury, leaving the Pioneers with just 12 able bodies, most of which were freshmen and sophomores.

The game was called at that point, bringing the game to an end and leaving the rest of the season in doubt.

An early onslaught by Martinsville gave the Bluestreaks a 16-0 lead three minutes into the game, but Palestine-Hutsonville answered with a 49-yard touchdown pass from Evan Newlin to Ruger Berry, making the score 16-6.

However, that would be the only points the Pioneers would score, while Martinsville tacked on 16 points in the second quarter and 13 more in the third before the game was stopped.

Martinsville outgained Palestine-Hutsonville 313-72, with the Pioneers totaling 81 passing yards on three completions and negative-eight rushing yards.

Newlin completed 3-15 passes for 81 yards and a touchdown, with Berry catching the 49-yard touchdown pass and Keagan Pittenger adding a 23-yard reception. Isaac York was the only rusher in positive yards for the Pioneers, as he gained 15 yards on his only attempt.

Boyce Snearley led Martinsville with 157 yards passing and three touchdowns, while Garron Haenig ran for 113 yards and two touchdowns and caught three passes for 72 yards and another score. Dalton Rollings added a touchdown reception and a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown and Storm Washburn also had a touchdown reception.
