Strong play continued for Robinson High School's girls' tennis team Tuesday (Sept. 5).
The Lady Maroons followed up their second-place finish at Salem over the weekend by rolling past Paris in a dual match, 8-1.
Robinson picked up wins in five of six singles matches to clinch the match, then went ahead and swept doubles for good measure.
Winning in singles for RHS were Emma Goodman, Mia Hargis, Meredith Berty, Sarah Staller and Alysha Clements, while picking up wins in doubles were the teams of Goodman and Hargis, Berty and Clements and Staller and Andrea Schalburg.
"The biggest challenge for the girls on both teams was the 15 mph wind and 30 mph gusts," RHS head coach Steve Jenkins said. "Besides either hitting with or against the wind, the wind would sometimes change and the girls would have to deal with crosswinds. Alysha did a great job tonight adjusting to the ball being hit and getting in the proper position to hit return shots. All of the girls really had to concentrate on each stroke and where it needed to be hit. Emma and Mia both played really solid in their singles match, then teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles."
Robinson also picked up a 12-6 win in the junior varsity match.
Singles wins came from Jaiden Logan, Autumn Tennison and Beccah Ludwig, while winning in doubles were the teams of Esperanza Murillo and Tennison (twice), Charlee Stewart and Edy Treadway, Rebecca Henry and Ludwig, Alexis Middleton and Destanee Liston, Liston and Stewart, Murillo and Treadway, Middleton and Stewart and Murillo and Liston.
