Pioneers lose to Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond, 45-12
JOSH BROWN
Sports Editor

Struggles on offense caused struggles on the other side of the ball as well for Palestine-Hutsonville's football team Friday night (Sept. 1).

The Pioneers struggled to hold onto the ball and had problems moving it even when they did and the end result was a 45-12 loss to Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond.

Despite their offensive struggles, Palestine-Hutsonville stayed close early, as they only gave up one touchdown in the first quarter and a field goal in the second to trail 10-0 at halftime.

However, Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond pulled away in the third quarter, as they scored five times to put the game out of reach.

Trailing 45-0 after three quarters, the Pioneers were able to avoid being shut out, as Evan Newlin and Isaac York hooked up for 85-yard and 40-yard touchdown passes in the final period, but it was not nearly enough.

Palestine-Hutsonville turned the ball over five times, while also committing nine penalties for 95 yards. The Pioneers did total 185 yards of offense, but 125 of that came on their two scoring plays.

Newlin led Palestine-Hutsonville with 154 yards passing and two touchdowns, while York caught three passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns and Matt Funk was the leading rusher with 18 yards.

Will Cohan passed for 133 yards and a touchdown for Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond, while Kobe Wells caught two passes for 122 yards and a touchdown and also ran for 25 yards and another score. Marcus Vanausdoll led the Knights with 54 yards rushing and three touchdowns and Billy Fifer added 47 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
