Playing at home for the first time this season went about as smooth as it could have for Robinson High School's volleyball team Tuesday night (Aug. 29).

The Lady Maroons cruised to a two-set win over visiting Mt. Carmel in non-conference play, 25-12, 25-13.

"We played much better volleyball tonight," RHS head coach Eric Dean said. "We passed, served, set and hit real well."

In the first set, the teams traded points early, then Robinson grabbed a 5-3 lead with a three-point run. Mt. Carmel scored four of the next five points to grab a 7-6 lead, only for Robinson to score six straight points to take a 12-7 lead. The Lady Maroons led by at least four points the rest of the way and finished on an 8-1 run.

Robinson led throughout the second set after jumping out to a 2-0 lead. The margin quickly ballooned to 10-2 and they cruised to win the set and the match.

Amy McGahey led RHS with 11 points, including four aces, along with five kills, five digs and one block. Laini Wright totaled seven points with one ace, 13 assists and one dig, Amber Hillard posted five points, eight digs, six kills and one assist and Sydni Bailey added four points with two aces and two digs.

"Laini and Gracie Shidler both set well," Dean said. "Amy had a great night serving and Amber Hillard had a big night all around. When we play like we did tonight, we will be a difficult team to beat."

Robinson also won the junior varsity match in two sets, 25-16, 25-16 and the freshman match 25-14, 25-19.

In the JV match, Kenzie Wisdom led RHS with 10 points, including three aces, two digs, one kill and one block, while Katy Powell posted five points with two aces, five digs and two kills. Macy Sutfin recorded five points with one ace, four digs, one kill and one assist, Katie Hartke netted four points, four kills, three digs and one assist and Gracie Gower added three points, five assists and five digs.

In the freshman match, Emma Bailey led RHS with 17 points, including three aces, six assists, four kills and four digs, while Kori Calvert posted three points with one ace and three kills and Sutfin added three points and three digs.
