Just over a handful of Robinson High School athletes were recognized for their performance on the diamond this spring by being named to one of the All-Little Illini Conference teams recently.
Four softball players and three baseball players received honors, with four of those players being First Team selections.
The Lady Maroons had a pair of First Team selections in junior Malia Gunn and senior Kirbie Mendenhall.
Gunn led the team with a .608 batting average (45-74), including 15 home runs, along with five triples, four doubles, 39 runs scored and 35 runs batted in.
Mendenhall led the pitching staff with a 14-6 overall record, which included a 5-2 mark in conference games. She posted a 2.55 ERA in those league games, while striking out 50 batters and walking 10 in 55 innings. At the plate, Mendenhall hit .282 overall (22-78), including eight doubles, one triple, one home run and 16 runs batted in.
Making the Second Team from RHS was sophomore Jaedyn Johnson. She hit .325 this season (24-75) with three triples, one double and 11 runs batted in and did not strike out the entire season.
Also for RHS, senior Alexis Sullivan was named to the Honorable Mention team. Sullivan finished the year with a .306 average (19-62), which included two home runs, three triples, two doubles and nine runs batted in.
On the baseball side, the Maroons also had a pair of First Team selections in senior Brayden Burtch and freshman Kade Lassen.
Burtch carried the load on the mound for RHS with a 6-2 record and 2.23 ERA in 11 games. He tossed three complete games struck out 72 batters and walked 24 in 53.1 innings. At the plate, Burtch also held his own with a .316 average (12-38), eight runs batted in and two runs scored.
Lassen tied for the team lead in hitting with a .356 average (21-59), including two doubles, 13 runs scored and 10 runs batted in.
Also for RHS, junior Cole Waggoner was an Honorable Mention selection.
He tied for the team lead in batting average at .356 (16-45), despite playing in just 15 games due to splitting his time with the track team. He also had one home run, one triple, two doubles, 15 runs scored and 11 runs batted in. He also pitched in one game, allowing a hit in one-third of an inning.
