Competition was close, but Robinson High School's girls' track team was able to come out on top in a four-team meet at Newton Monday (April 24).
The Lady Maroons won five events and had strong finishes in several more on their way to racking up 124 points and edging Teutopolis, who finished second with 123. Newton was third with 113 and Palestine-Hutsonville fourth with 24.
Picking up wins for RHS were Sydney Beard in the 100 hurdles (17.50), Amber Hillard in the 200 (27.75), Andrea Schalburg in the 1600 (6:43), the 800 relay team of Beard, Amy McGahey, Lauren Weber and Hillard (1:58.44) and the 1600 relay team of Julia Gallion, Beard, Daphne Phillippe and Weber (4:52).
Finishing second were Beard in the 300 hurdles (55.50), Weber in the 800 (2:45.10) and triple jump (31-3.5), Gracie Shidler in the 3200 (15:30), McGahey in the long jump (15-0), Abby Chipman in the high jump (4-7), Schalburg in the pole vault (7-0) and the 400 relay team of Meredith Berty, Gallion, Tana Schernekau and Phillippe (59.44), while third-place finishers were Annie Hays in the 800 (3:05), Sabrina Malone in the 1600 (7:45), Gracie Gower in the 3200 (16:14), McGahey in the triple jump (31-3) and the 3200 relay team of Shidler, Phillippe, Hays and Schalburg (13:09).
Placing fourth were Hillard in the 100 (13.57), Gallion in the 400 (1:14.18), Madysen Clark in the 1600 (7:48) and Phillippe in the shot put (32-1.75), finishing fifth were Ashton Wesley in the 100 hurdles (19.02), Hannah Jackson in the 400 (1:17.26) and Kelsey McDaniel in the 1600 (8:39) and coming in sixth were Wesley in the 300 hurdles (1:02.38) and Triannah O'Dell in the 200 (31.88).
For Palestine-Hutsonville, Summer Agan led the Lady Pioneers with second-place finishes in the shot put (33-7.75) and discus (99-6), while the 400 relay team of Megan Funk, Paige Matthews, Allison Dunlap and Mandi Alspach was third (1:00.19).
Fourth-place finishers were Kendra Biggs in the discus (91-10), Alspach in the high jump (4-7) and the 800 relay team of Funk, Matthews, Biggs and Alspach (2:01.37), while finishing sixth were Maci Pruitt in the 400 (1:19.75) and Funk in the triple jump (27-5.5).
