Lady Statesmen drop three to Lake Land
Sports Editor

One team scored virtually at will, while the other did not score at all, which turned out to be bad news for Lincoln Trail College's softball team Tuesday (April 25).

The Lady Statesmen went scoreless in two and a half games and the end result was three lopsided losses at the hands of Lake Land College.

The teams completed a suspended game from their doubleheader in Mattoon, which Lake Land won 19-0. Then, the two teams played their Great Rivers Athletic Conference doubleheader that was slated for Robinson and Lake Land picked up 18-0 and 15-0 victories.

In the first game, Lake Land had scored seven runs in the first inning before rain halted the game. They were able to add six more in the third Tuesday and another six in the fourth to cruise to the win.

Sydnee Carey and Adriana Duvall posted a double and a single apiece to lead LTC, while Carlee McFarland added two singles.

Christine Bombadiere gave up seven runs, only two of which were earned, on six hits and a walk in an inning of work during the portion of the game played at Mattoon and took the loss.

In game two, Lake Land broke a scoreless tie with five runs in the third, then scored nine in the fourth and four more in the fifth to turn the game into a rout.

Not only was the score lopsided, but the Lady Statesmen failed to get a base runner, as Lake Land's Emily Oestreich threw a perfect game.

Hayley Smalley took the loss on the mound, allowing 12 runs, eight earned, on 10 hits, while walking two and striking out one in three and one-third innings.

In game three, Lake Land scored in every inning and rolled to another win.

LTC did manage to get a couple of base hits, as Carey doubled and Parker Corder singled.

Corder suffered the loss on the mound, giving up 15 runs, nine earned, on 12 hits, while walking two and striking out three in five innings.
