Sports Editor

Runs came early and late for Oblong High School's baseball team Friday (April 14) and the end result was a lopsided win in Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Division play.

The Panthers scored in each of their first four at-bats, then plated four more in their final trip to the plate en route to a 12-2 win at Cumberland.

Oblong opened the scoring with two in the first, then plated one in the second and four more in the third for a 7-0 advantage. Cumberland got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third, while Oblong tacked on another in the top of the fourth before Cumberland scored again in the bottom of the inning to make the score 8-2. The Panthers then put the game out of reach with a four-run eighth inning.

Nate Meese led OHS at the plate with a home run, a single, four runs batted in and a run scored, while Dawson Maus tripled, singled, scored three times and drove in a run. Hunter Goodwin posted a home run and three runs batted in, Ryan Gill singled, knocked in two runs and scored a run, Logan Richards added a base hit, a run batted in and a run scored, Drew Reider singled and scored a run, Kacey Cheek scored two runs and Conner Potts and Tyler Musgrave each scored a run.

Maus earned the win on the mound, allowing two unearned runs on three hits, while walking one and striking out three in six innings. Meese allowed a walk in a scoreless seventh to finish out the game.
