The historic season for Nuttall Middle School's seventh grade volleyball team has carried them all the way to the state finals and they got their in dramatic fashion.
Robinson kept its perfect season alive Monday by outlasting St. Elmo in three sets, 25-17, 24-26, 26-24, to win the Class 3A Casey Sectional and advance to the IESA Class 3A State Finals Saturday.
After completing the first undefeated regular season in school history and winning the program's second regional and first for a seventh grade squad, the Lady Raiders captured the first-ever sectional title for Robinson volleyball.
Malia Gunn paced NMS with 16 points, including five aces, 10 digs and five kills, while Laini Wright totaled 11 points with three aces, four kills, two digs and one assist. Mallory Sutfin posted seven points with two aces, nine digs, eight assists and one kill, Audrey Maxwell netted six points with one ace and one dig, Katie Veenstra contributed four points with one ace, 10 digs, two assists and one kill, Adriann Randolph collected three points, nine digs and one assist and Amy McGahey added nine digs and six kills.
Robinson (21-0) will play Maroa-Forsyth (21-1) in the fourth quarterfinal of the Class 3A State Finals at Assumption Central A&M Middle School Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Should the Lady Raiders win their quarterfinal match, they would play again Saturday at 5:15 p.m. in the semifinals against the winner of the 2:15 p.m. quarterfinal match between Beecher (20-2) and Tuscola East Prairie (19-4). Other quarterfinal matchups include Chillicothe (25-0) against Pleasant Plains (16-0) at 10 a.m. and Carlinville (16-0) against Deer Creek-Mackinaw (20-5) at 11:15 a.m.
The third-place and championship matches are set for 5:30 and 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 12.
