The march toward a state championship continues for New Hebron Christian School's eighth grade basketball team.
New Hebron picked up another win in Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association Class S State Tournament play Monday, downing Carrier Mills, 48-35, in the quarterfinals at Rend Lake College.
With the win, New Hebron is guaranteed no worse than fourth place in the tournament and is now just two wins away from a state championship.
Joey Wright paced the Eagles with 20 points, two steals and one rebound in the win, while Hunter Goodwin posted 14 points, five steals, three rebounds and two assists. Chris Rivera netted eight points, six steals and four assists, Lukas Baird contributed four points, one rebound and one assist, Markis Renshaw collected two points, one rebound, one assist and one blocked shot, Annie Bellinger grabbed two rebounds and Shaelyn Wilber, Daniel Wyckoff and Will Hawkins had one rebound apiece.
In other quarterfinal action Monday, Rome beat Centralia Trinity Lutheran 32-22, Woodlawn crushed Red Bud St. John Catholic 57-25 and Pinckneyville Consolidated 204 defeated Patoka 60-54.
New Hebron (17-7) advances to Thursday's semifinals, where they will play Rome at 6 p.m. at Rend Lake. Woodlawn and Pinckneyville Consolidated 204 will meet in the second semifinal at 7:15 that night.
The championship game is set for 4 p.m. Saturday, with the third-place game at 2:30 p.m.
