The final margin was cut in half from the last time, but the end result was still the same for Robinson High School's girls' basketball team Thursday night in their regular season finale.

The Lady Maroons fell behind early and never recovered, resulting in a 50-19 loss to Little Illini Conference champion Marshall.

Still, the latest loss to the Lady Lions was closer than the previous meeting, where RHS lost by 62 (80-18) in the quarterfinals of the LIC Tournament Jan. 12.

Robinson fell behind 13-2 after one quarter, then was outscored 9-6 in the second quarter for a 22-8 halftime deficit. Marshall broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring RHS 17-0 to extend their advantage to 39-8, then each team scored 11 points in the fourth quarter after the outcome was decided.

Kyndal Mendenhall led RHS with eight points, while Emily Calip tossed in five. Tessa Laino netted four points for the Lady Maroons and Kylee Hannahs scored two.

Kaydie Grooms singlehandedly outscored RHS in the game, as she led Marshall with 26 points, while Cheyenne Thompson also reached double digits with 12 points.

Robinson also lost the junior varsity game, 24-6, which included the Lady Maroons going scoreless in the first half.

Laino, Emily Keeler and Maralee Birkofer scored two points apiece for RHS.

Robinson (5-15) will open postseason play when they take on Lawrenceville in the Class 2A Marshall Regional Monday at 7:30 p.m.
