Lady Statesmen lose at JALC, 88-59
JOSH BROWN
Sports Editor

Lincoln Trail College's women's basketball team played good for a half Wednesday, but unfortunately it was the second half and it came after the Lady Statesmen dug themselves a 32-point deficit in the first half.

The end result was the same as their previous 15 contests, as the Lady Statesmen fell at John A. Logan College, 88-59, in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play at Carterville.

A slow start by the Lady Statesmen and a hot start by John A. Logan proved to be the difference in the game. Lincoln Trail struggled offensively in the first half, making just 7-18 shots from the floor (39 percent), while John A. Logan blistered the nets at a 56 percent clip (23-41) to take a 53-21 lead at halftime. The second half was much better for LTC, as they made half of their field goal attempts (14-28), including 6-7 from three-point range (86 percent) and outscored John A. Logan 38-35 over the final 20 minutes, but the early deficit was too much to overcome.

Turnovers and rebounding also plagued the Lady Statesmen, as they committed 26 turnovers and were outrebounded 35-20.

Gabrielle Duncan led a balanced scoring attack for LTC with 16 points and two steals, while Lara Benningfield posted 12 points, one rebound, one steal and one assist. Andrea Rivera netted 11 points and two rebounds, Kelsie Coleman contributed 10 points, four rebounds and two assists, Kristin Henry totaled six points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals, Ted'ra Taborn chipped in with two points and three rebounds, Erica Phifer added one point, three rebounds and one steal and Danielle Nettleton had one point and two rebounds.

Five players reached double figures for John A. Logan, led by Jessica Hirsch with 15 points, two rebounds and one steal. Autumn Miller totaled 14 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and five steals, Briya Wilborn collected 14 points, eight rebounds, five steals and two assists, Aneta Sloma posted 14 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals and Mystri Jodie added 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and one steal.=
