Panthers cruise past Noble, 63-27
Sports Editor

One quarter's output was almost all Oblong High School's boys' basketball team needed to pick up a non-conference win at Noble Tuesday night.

The Panthers overwhelmed the host Wildcats from the opening tip and rolled to a 63-27 victory.

Oblong wasted little time getting a comfortable lead, as they raced to a 24-4 lead after one quarter of play and were never threatened. Oblong then outscored Noble 16-5 in the second quarter for a 40-9 halftime advantage and won the third quarter 15-11 to make the score 55-20 heading into the final period. Oblong then outscored Noble 8-7 over the final eight minutes to reach the final margin.

The Panthers nearly made as many field goals (26) as Noble had points in the game. Of the 12 players that saw action for Oblong in the game, eight of them found the scoring column.

Leading the way for Oblong was Anthony Johnson with 19 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and two steals. Johnson scored 12 of his points in the first quarter, while the rest came in the third. Jared Mayhew posted 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench, Gerald Richardson totaled 10 points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal, Michael Brown contributed nine points, three rebounds and one steal, Collin Meese netted four points, three rebounds, two steals and one assist, Tyler Woods pitched in with four points and three rebounds, Kurt Knollenberg added four points, one rebound and one assist and Brody Allen had three points, four rebounds and one steal.

Nobody reached double figures for Noble, as they were led by Beau VanBlaricum with eight points. Diego Gonzalez added six and Hunter Kinkade added five for the Wildcats.

There was no junior varsity game, as Noble does not have enough players to field a team.

Oblong (8-3) will play host to Martinsville for a non-conference, varsity-only contest Friday at 6:30 p.m.
